OverviewUnder the supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs basic, routine duties related directly and indirectly to patient care. 11:15pm – 7:15pmFull TimeMonday – FridayAlternate weekends ResponsibilitiesObtain and Record Vital Signs (T, P, R, BP, Pulse oximetry)Perform VenipuncturesPerforms BGM (including Quality Controls)Provides IS coverage as assignedAssists patients with ADLsCorrectly turn and position patients in bed and chairSpecimens (Collection/ printing transmittals/sending to lab)Obtains and records intake and output and heights and weightsProvides care for patients in restraintsCommunicates effectively with RNs and members of the health team regarding patient needs, requests and changes in patient’s condition.

Promptly answers all call lights and patient requestsTransports patients (as indicated for area)Performs hand off communication at bedside/chair with RNs and PCTsKeeps patient unit and non-patient unit cleanPrepares area/unit with proper equipment for admissions, transfers and dischargesStocks and maintains supplies and equipment; reports needs to NM or designeeApplies principles of infection control by following proper hand washing techniques and isolation precautionsMakes frequent patient rounds to ensure patient safety and comfortReports significant unit problems to charge nurseUses 2 identifiers when delivering patient careOrients patient and family to the environment, unit and hospital proceduresPerforms errands and other related duties as requiredObeys hospital dress codeMaintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

Indicates an Essential Job Function. INFANTS AND CHILDREN’S HOSPITALReplenishes supply/equipment carts stored in the patient care area ensuring appropriate expiration data calculating the quantity of items required from pre-determined quota Keeps utility, treatment and supply areas orderly. Identifies need to order supplies and equipment to replenish unit stock by calculating the quantity of items required from pre-determined quota Cleans and prepares isolates, warmers, bassinets in Neonatal ICU to facilitate impending admission or ensure appropriate set-up for emergency admission Cleans and disposes of supplies and equipment properly following invasive procedures; places garbage in proper receptacles; replaces full waste containers as necessary.

Prepare and process instruments/devices for sterilization. Perform newborn hearing and blood screening tests. Transports patients intra and interdepartmentally.

QualificationsEducation:High School Diploma or High School Equivalency required. Successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant Program, or New York State Certified Nursing Assistant Program, or EMS Training. Pass Patient Care Technician (PCT) Test (75% or greater).

Minimum of 1 year of experience in direct patient care.

Technical skills required for patient care. Good oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills.

Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
