The Special Equipment Repair Technician I is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a variety of mechanical and electrically powered equipment. This position supports the safe and reliable operation of equipment used in healthcare and facility environments. QualificationsKey ResponsibilitiesDiagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electronic equipment.

Replace components such as cables, switches, relays, control boards, belts, and pulleys. Perform routine maintenance, repairs, retrofits, and minor and major equipment repair or replacement. Use schematics, manuals, and technical documentation to complete repairs.

Operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and correctly. Document work performed in accordance with department procedures. Follow all safety policies and safe work practices.

Participate in a rotational on-call schedule (approximately once every six weeks). Equipment Serviced Includes (but is not limited to)Hospital beds (manual and electric components)Stretchers and wheelchairsCommercial kitchen equipmentMedical air compressorsVacuum pumps and waste gas pumpsMinimum Education & Experience RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent required. Preferred completion of training associated with a Master or Journeyman license, or two or more years of specialized technical education.

One of the following experience pathways is required:A Journeyman license with 4–6 years of commercial trade experience; or6–8 years of commercial trade experience without a Journeyman license. Preference will be given to candidates with three or more years of experience in a healthcare environment. Technical education or vocational training may substitute for up to two years of required work experience.

& QualificationsExperience troubleshooting electronic or electro-mechanical equipment. Experience replacing electrical and mechanical components. Familiarity with multimeters, torque wrenches, and standard shop tools.

Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation. Valid Florida driver's license required. Ability to participate in the department's on-call rotation.

Monday–Friday, 5:30 AM–4:00 PM (40 hours/week)Expected schedule is 40 hours per week unless coverage is needed for on-call responsibilities or facility emergencies. Schedule may remain a five-day workweek or transition to a four-day workweek. Location: UF Health Shands Hospital – Archer RoadPaid bi-weekly.
