About the role

The System Administrator II position is responsible for the effective design, provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure.  This individual will share responsibilities for the support of all BCH IT systems. This position may include primary responsibility for administering the Epic server environment.

The System Administrator II position is responsible for the effective design, provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual will share responsibilities for the support of all BCH IT systems. This position may include primary responsibility for administering the Epic server environment.

Responsibilities on these systems include engineering, configuration, operations and support, maintenance, and research and development. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education or Formal Training Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or other technology related field is preferred. Equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.

Special Qualifications (licensure, registration, etc.) Microsoft Certified System Administrator Windows Server (MCSA) preferred. Citrix Certified Associate, Professional, or Expert preferred. Epic Certification for a Technical Team role.

Ability to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of patient electronic protected health information (ePHI) and departmental documents.

Ability to develop logical conclusions, inferences, and judgments based on available data and facts. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment, takes ownership of issues, and drives system improvements and innovations. Analytical ability to evaluate systems, gather data, analyze information, draw conclusions, generate solutions, and evaluate the consequences of choosing each alternative.

Ability to identify system issues, collect data, establish facts and resolve issues related to server systems/software. Experience providing both end user documentation for a highly non-technical audience as well as for other IT staff. Experience troubleshooting complex systems with multiple vendors a plus.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience Minimum two years’ experience as system/network administrator in a large-scale environment (200+ servers) with a large user population (1000+). Experience with VMWare virtualization Experience with Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix XenApp.

Thorough knowledge of Microsoft operating systems. Strong in Microsoft Office 365. Experience with Cisco UCS.

Strong understanding of IT Security. Experience with Microsoft Active Directory services and DNS. Microsoft PowerShell scripting and automation knowledge.

Experience working in a large multisite data center environment. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED Servers PCs Printers WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES HIPAA privacy and security requirements Physical requirements include the ability to lift forty pounds one foot for several minutes Manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination capable of manipulation small switches, cables and hand tool in small areas. Will need to travel to remote sites.

Audio acuity for telephone use and detecting alarms. Will work with users and vendors over phone devices giving and/or following verbal instructions. Ability to work nights and weekends to support organizational needs on occasion Rotates on an on-call rotation with team peers INTERRELATIONSHIPS This position involves communication to different audience levels, this includes the ability to communicate information clearly and concisely, and in a timely manner.

This includes setting timelines, maintaining communication, and addressing related issues. Validate solutions are complete and appropriately implemented. Engage in capacity planning exercises to ensure adequate system resources are available across all systems.

Write and maintain scripts to improve system management tasks. May manage print queues and Epic printing infrastructure. Perform file system management.

Assists other members on Information Technology Staff on technical issues. Trains users, including other system/administrators and technical support analysts as necessary. Analyze System/User Needs Understand performance metrics, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issues Manage logins for different types of access, including login behavior and working environment configurations in Epic.

Works with various hospital departments in defining system needs, including software applications, custom screens/menus, and reports to improve efficiency and productivity. Continually reviews system operations to identify weaknesses, operational or workflow problems, and other areas that need improvement. Assists in evaluating systems, communicating impact of known issues, preparing an analysis of alternatives, and implementing enhancements to existing system.

Follow vendor and Epic best practices for hardware and software configuration. Participate in the design and implementation of redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery, business continuity, and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
